Between Etosha National Park and the Skeleton Coast, Ohorongo is a 40,000-hectare reserve that is home to the vast array of wildlife, as well as endangered species such as black-faced impala, roan, and sable. The wildlife in Namibia does so by being resilient and adapting to temperature extremes and very low rainfall. Watching endemic wildlife in this environment is an entirely different experience to neighbouring countries – the landscape offers a backdrop that emphasises the magnificence of these species tenfold.
Game drives take guests into the reserve to explore, day or night, and due to the private ownership of the reserve, night drives can extend well into the moonlight, offering a whole new dynamic and creating all new memories of Africa. Sundowners at scenic spots overlooking the enchanting landscape is part and parcel of afternoon drives and are often the highlight of the guest experience.
Guided walks, however, are perhaps the greatest pleasure of an Ohorongo safari. Discovering this place of history – both animal and human – on foot offers a unique look at the world, and under the expert guidance of Ohorongo guides, you’ll understand what part of the big picture you make up.

Rise with the sun and watch dawn break over the landscape while you enjoy something good to eat and discuss with your guide whether you’d like to head out on foot or on a game drive. Morning activity usually lasts three or four hours before you return to the camp feeling full of the beauty of Namibia and ready to refresh before lunch.
The afternoon is yours, and you can spend it at the pool, enjoying a refreshment on your private deck with a good book and a pair of binoculars at the ready, or catching up on some sleep before venturing out to explore Ohorongo in the golden light of sunset.
Every evening begins at the bar for a drink before tucking into a three-course culinary experience, rooted in local quality and sustainability. Mealtimes are an opportunity to come together and enjoy Ohorongo’s kitchen creations. Afterwards, hang around for a nightcap around the fire under the enormous stretch of stars overhead.
Ohorongo Private Game Reserve is 300km north of Windhoek and can be easily accessed by road or air. There are two airstrips for charter flights in the reserve to cater most conveniently for guests arriving at either Ohorongo Safari Lodge or Ohorongo Tented Camp.
